    Hi there,
I would love to make many more comments on your weblog about the mashup…but to be honest, there is not much to make a comment about.

I am waiting for you to put more data in.
As I said before, we are very interested in the data about the Wells to begin with.

Will the new data be in NZTM?? I do hope so, otherwise they won’t fit with our GIS when connecting them via GISserver (like the existing Ecan data at the moment)

    Looking forward to your improvements.
    Kind regards
    Esther

    Thanks Esther for your comments,

not sure what system you run so I can’t comment on that for you re: integration.

The current std at the council is NZMG not NZTM, but this shouldn’t present any issues to a GIS professional with modern tools. i.e. re-projecting etc.

The GIS guys here can add a blog entry about how to do that if you like?

Check out the rest api (link below) and see what data we currently have up on the beta folder.

below is a help file on the rest api ….

    Hi Coomsie,
    thanks for your reply.
When I access the ECan data through ArcIMS server (ECanMappingJ) in ArcGIS 9.3, I am not able to project the data correctly. ECan data appears to be NZMG but the in fact the layer properties say that the coordinate system in Undefined. Is doesn’t matter if I load them into an NZGM or an NZTM environment, they will not project propertly. I checked with Eagle support, but they also could not provide a solution. As long as the coordinate system is not defined, there is nothing I can do to get it right.

Thanks for the links about rest api. I have to admit, that is new stuff for me.
I reckon I need a username and password to be able to connect to the server at http://arcgis.ecan.govt.nz/ArcGIS/rest/services/Beta/Groundwater/MapServer? At the moment I can save and open the lyr file but is appears empty (not connected to the server).
Or maybe the server in not online yet?

    Have a nice weekend
    cheers
    Esther

      Hi,

re: ArcIMS there are some layers that haven’t been setup with the projection on. Long term our ArcIMS will be replaced with ArcGIS Server and we would want interested parties to be connecting via this rather than ArcIMS. At the moment not all data layers are on our ArcGIS server, but we hope to progress this, in the coming year.

You should be able to connect to the map you mentioned. We have noticed that the files downloaded to connect via KML have had the wrong server name on them (iridium instead of arcgis.ecan.govt.nz). It’s something we are looking into.

      Cheers

    Hi Coomsie,
    thanks for the reply.
I am trying to open the files in ArcMap (not KML) but I get a GIS Server Connection window asking me for a user name and password which I don’t have. And indeed, the URL links to Irdium.
Can you provide me a user name and password, please?

Thanks. Looking forward to the new system, it will be very useful!
