It’s been a long wait but we have finally completed our first mashup! This involved taking our swimming water quality GIS layer and integrating it with Google maps to create an application that allows users to view the water quality for tested swimming locations around Canterbury. From the GIS layer we are able to read the grades and using the Google maps info window functionality give grading overviews, display the grading graphs, and eventually display location photos.

Hi,
The ‘Fair’ icons show up as purple on the map and light orange in the legend. The popup box with info is so large that on a small screen (eeePC 900) the close icon is off screen… Might be good to make the popup box smaller with scroll bars.
Cheers, Niels
Thanks for the feedback Niels – taken into consideration
Looks and feels very smooth. Fantastic job guys. I especially like – the beach grades and their decriptions being used as the primary public communication tool – and the “affected by rainfall add on”.
One usefull addition would be to add in a picture of each site into the popup somehow. So the public can visually see exactly when the grades relates to.
Cheers

Thanks for the kind comments James,
the picture functionality is in the solution, we are just waiting for the collation of all the pictures.
intitially we had google images come up automatically based on the name of the site.
But when the ecan staff saw that, they told us they actually have photos of the areas so we are going with their photo’s instead.
Cheers

Great stuff, guys! We’re just starting to implement ArcGIS Server here at Lincoln and really pleased to see sites like this popping up.
Hi Crile,
It’s good to see you guys are using the same technology.
Maybe we could join up the servers to use some common data in the future.
Cheers
Hi Guys,
I like the interface, it’s very easy to get information out of, but the black names are very hard to read if you have the satelite photos enabled. And I agree with Niels the popup boxes could be smaller.
Otherwise, keepu up the good work!
