Want some GIS data but don’t know where to go?

There is an interesting web site that has taken shape in New Zealand. It’s called Koordinates.com. It’s a young start up company that is trying to achieve a one stop shop for New Zealand GeoData.

They have been going since April 2008 this year.

Already they have 107 layers on their system (if I’ve counted that right :( ).

On the site you can set an area of interest and ask the web page to send you the data in x format (a few to choose from!) via a download.

They currently use google maps for the back drop.

So maybe drop over and see what they are doing. Here is the link again. http://koordinates.com

Cheers

Coomsie

    Hi
this is a great idea, but what would make it even more useful would be some sort of index and published plan about the data that was available now and will be available in the near future. If its already there and I’ve missed it, then my apologies.

    Hi Geoff,

We’re working with a number of different organisations to get their geodata online and available – commercial, government, non-profit, scientific. If you have any specific requests (or know of someone that should be publishing data) flick us an email at support@koordinates.com and we’ll see what we can do.

There’s RSS feeds of newly layers available (and for specific areas/categories) so you can keep track of what’s added – click the RSS icon in the URL bar (or at the bottom) of any list page.

What other ideas do you have for indexing layers? Currently they’re organised by category, supplier, and location, but there’s always room for improvements!

    Rob :)
